Not to get on a high horse, but I love when people have come up to me lately and ask me if I was still on that “diet”, like this morning. I gave the cliche answer of “Its not a diet its a lifestyle” because I was just too tired from the gym this morning to muster up another way to retort. In my mind, if I am going to change myself, it needs to be a lifestyle and a mindset. When I hear people say the word “diet” I feel that its a temporary thing to achieve a goal of weight loss, but then once they achieve the goal, they tend to go back to their regular eating habits.
I finally got to my parents house for a little Christmas vactaion time. Since I was flying across the country, I didnt take any of my suppliments nor protien powders with me for a 10 day trip since I needed the room for presents and such. That was a mistake, or it was a mistake not to bring something to last a day or two while I went to get more. So I went to the gym the day after my arrival and man was I hurting. I only brought a quart of water with me and I was winded after my fourth excercise. So I immediately hit the Vitamin Shoppe and grabbed some whey protien and pre workout, and that did the trick. Granted, the VS brand is not as tasty as what I usually get, but has worked so far.
My advice is if you are travelling, bring enough suppliments with you to cover 3 days. Anything longer than that I would suggest buying samples when you get there because the weight of the suppliments could offset the weight of extra clothig that you need.
In the beginning of October, I was able to accompany my girlfriend to her first body building competition, something she has been preparing for since I have known her. Being in a room filled with (mostly) beautiful, fit people, really intimidates a person.
It made me think.
Everyone here was obviously proud of their accomplishment, and seeing what my girlfriend here after had to go through, makes me respect her even more. The dedication and will power it took to get to this place not only made them stronger as a person, but physical specimens. After a quick photo with her after she got off stage made me realize I needed to make a change for the better.
Now, I will not stop writing on this site, but it will definitely take a different direction. Instead of going all in at a new place and stuffing myself with tasty tasty dishes, some lined with fatty goodness, and some with empty vegetable calories, I am going to be more conscious about what I put in my body and not get a sampling of several dishes.
So from here on out, WF will continue to inspire people to trying new tastes, places, and enjoying life with your friends, but I will also be talking about the process I am going though to eat healthier as well as try to give some good healthy alternatives. I want to find some good life balance between staying active and fit to indulging in the foodie side of me. I want to eat like Zimmern, drink like Bourdain, and look like Arnold back in the day. Well not that ripped, but it fit the story. So some parts may feel like a typical every day post blog, something which I have tried to stay away from, but I hope that it will not only help me stay on track, but will also be able to help someone else find inspiration.
I refuse to go all earthy crunchy and praise the all mighty granola bar while driving my Prius, but we all have to grow up right???
