La Dolce Vita | Beverly Hills, CA

If you are not paying attention to where you are going, you could miss the small red awning that graces the entrance to this historic italian restaurant. For its famous clients such as Frank Sinatra, who had his own booth, to icons that witnessed history happen before their eyes, like Nancy Reagan, to the scores of loyal regulars who call this home, La Dolce Vita delivers traditional italian food in a nice comfortable atmosphere.

And even when I was paying attention, I still missed the awning. It sits on the corner of S Santa Monica Blvd and Wilshire. So I had to turn around for another go. Once I did walk in, I was promptly greeted by its highly regarded Matre D’ Ruben with a straight eye line to the bar. Haven Gastropub | Pasadena, CA

Like anyone else, I love to wind down after a long work day, or on the weekends, but bar food can become a little redundant, chips, burgers, wings.  Now i am all for these foods, but sometimes i want something a little different with some good beer.  I had never heard the term “Gastropub” until I got to Los Angeles.  With choices on the menu like mussels, duck, and salmon, Haven Gastropub isn’t your typical sports bar.  So let’s eat!

First impressions, I kind of like this place, not too fancy, but not a typical, sports bar.  With the bar being the focal point a couple tv’s and casual elegant seating, it is definitely inviting.  In the mood for fresh air, hit the small outside dining area with a few two tops.  Didn’t I say let’s eat?

Du-Par’s Restaurant | Studio City, CA

Typically, when I have thought of diners outside of the North East, I think of Denny’s, Village Inn, Howard Johnson’s, those types of places, but other than being open 24 hours, Du-Par’s has little in common with the aforementioned places.

Du-Par’s in Studio City is part of a family of five restaurants in Southern CA and Las Vegas that has been operating for over 70 years, and their trademark is home made cooking.  Almost everything on their menu is made from scratch within  24 hours.  There is something to be said for preparing sauces and batters ahead of time and letting them rest to allow the flavors to mingle.
